How The Society Began

The Yellow Boot Society began - as many good stories do - rather quietly.
On evening walks along the bays and marshes of coastal Delaware, we found ourselves paying attention to the lives unfolding around us. The herons standing motionless at the water's edge, the gulls overhead, the turtles, the reeds moving in the wind, and all the little things that are easy to miss when you're in a hurry.
There was one great blue heron in particular who was always there.
Somewhere along the way, he became Gilbert.
And then, seemingly out of nowhere, Gilbert got a pair of yellow rain boots. We can't really explain that part. No one knows where the yellow boots came from. And that's part of the magic!
Before long, Gilbert wasn't alone. Percy appeared. Then Frenchy, Otis and Elmer. Each arrived with a pair of their yellow boots, too, and a personality all their own. Suddenly, the marsh we had walked beside so many times had become a world filled with whimsy and a cast of characters that teach slowing down, appreciating the little things, laughing often and leave a little magic wherever you wander.

Where Art Met Story
Perhaps all of this was inevitable.
My husband has been an artist for most of his life; painting, drawing, carving wood and stone, and forever finding ways to make something with his hands.
I've spent most of mine with stories. Writing them, reading them, imagining them. I've always been an avid reader, a storyteller and, probably more than anything, a dreamer.
The Yellow Boot Society became the place where those two worlds met.
